Italy – 2018

April of 2018 has been a bit of a roller coaster ride to say the least. It began with a challenging and much anticipated photo workshop in Italy and ended with my mom breaking her ankle. Of all things. As Mom and Dad set forth to pick me up from the airport, Mom slipped on a step leaving the house breaking her ankle in 3 places. Surgery was needed to repair the ankle and now the long road to recover begins. It’s been tough. You begin to realize the challenges as we age and it’s hard to see your loved ones suffer. Hopefully the long road ahead will become a distant memory.

As far as Italy goes, the words fun, challenging and chaotic come to mind. Fun in the sense that I had this urge to hop on a plane with my camera and head out for a new challenge. I wanted to be challenged. I wanted to be out of my comfort zone. I wanted to try something new. Ultimately I decided on a workshop in Venice, Italy.
I’m a nature and wildlife photographer so heading out into the world of photographing people and culture was certainly out of my comfort zone. Knowing the language was my little security blanket that ultimately helped me join Jeffrey Chapman and Winslow Lockhart on their Within The Frame , Creative Venice Photo Workshop. Jeffery and Winslow were fantastic and our group was incredible. This trip began as strictly a photo adventure but turned out to be more about friends, food, culture and people… and the bonus was we got to photograph it! It doesn’t get much better than that.

Hopefully the photographs I will be sharing in the next while will immerse you into the culture of Venice and Cinque Terre in Italy. The maze of narrow streets and alleys of Venice and the cliff side towns in Cinque Terre are home for some. I tip my hat to all the locals who battle with the chaotic sea of millions of tourists every day. I don’t think I could handle that.

Until next time,
