Whenever I head out to the mountains to areas I’m not familiar with, my regular routine is to scout during the day with hopes of finding that little spot where the possibility for a successful image could be realized with a perfect sunrise or sunset. Scouting doesn’t necessarily mean no shooting! With storm clouds forming from the east and good light to my back, this little area in the Kootenay Plains provided the elements for some success in mid afternoon light back in July of last year.
I like the mood here with the dark sky and the well lit greens from the light behind me. It began to rain shortly after these images were taken affecting the reflections in the pond to where I decided to call it and continue exploring the area.
Opting for a different spot for sunrise the next morning, I filed this particular location in my memory banks for a future outing.
